About twelve years ago, we were watching a movie on TV in which some people were climbing a rugged, snow covered mountain. They had to scale dangerous rocky cliffs and huge walls of ice. Some of the people lost their footing and fell to their deaths, while others had narrow escapes.
When the movie paused for advertisements, I shuddered and said to my family that I would never dare to go climbing like that. Having declared this, I went to the kitchen to make everyone a hot drink.
As I started to make the drinks, the Lord gave me a vision. I can see it clearly, even after all these years.
In the vision, I saw the Lord standing in midair near the face of a huge, rocky cliff. The cliff towered far above Him, and dropped so far below Him that I could scarcely see the bottom.
I was standing on a steep grassy slope, clinging desperately to a small tree just inches from the cliff. I was level with Him, but He was ten or twenty feet away from me.
The Lord held His hand out, beckoning me to let go of the tree. He wanted me to step out into nothingness and climb out along that cliff to Him.
He said, “Will you trust Me?”
Then the vision ended, but His words were imbedded into my heart.
“Will you trust Me?”
For a start, I was too fearful to let go of the things that made me feel safe, but He has never left me and as I go through life, I am learning more and more to trust Him. Each day, I take a step closer to Him.
